Doda, Apr 03 (KNO): The National Conference and Congress party put up a united face today for Udhampur Parliamentary constituency when a meeting of leaders of both the parties was held at Batote in Ramban district. The meeting was chaired by NC president Farooq Abdullah whereas Pradesh Congress Committee president Vikar Rasool Wani, alliance candidate for Udhampur Lok Sabha seat Choudhary Lal Singh and others addressed the meet. According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the meeting unanimously decided to put up a united face at every to ensure alliance candidate wins this seat. From NC side most of the party leaders from Chenab valley including former ministers Khalid Najeeb Suharwardy and Sajad Kichloo, senior leaders Mehbooba Iqbal, Sajad Shaheen and others attended the meet whereas from Congress party former MLC Naresh Gupta, general secretary Sheikh Riaz Ahmed and others participated. NC provincial president Rattan Lal Gupta, Ajay Sadhotra, Aijaz Jan and others were also present. A senior Congress leader told KNO that Farooq Abdullah asked the alliance leaders to work hard and ensure the Congress party candidate wins from this seat. “This is the last chance to throw this government out otherwise they will be bringing a law which will take back our rights. We have no other option but to get united,” Farooq Abdullah told the meeting. The NC president made it clear that Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) has fielded Ghulam Muhammad Saroori to cut Muslim votes so that it can benefit the BJP. “This is the time to reach out to the people at the grassroot level and tell people about the actual motive of DPAP. Everybody has to campaign at booth level, block level and district level,” he added. Speaking on the occasion, Congress candidate Choudhary Lal Singh said that everybody has to work hard to ensure victory. “If they (BJP) think that they will be able to get Hindu votes form Kathua and Udhampur districts, they are day dreaming. People of these two districts will show them doors and it is upto us to reach out to the people with our agenda,” Singh added.
